The Best Long Weekend in Odda and Tyssedal
Odda as seen from above.
The hike to Trolltunga is an unmissable experience on your trip to Norway, but did you know, there is so much more to see and do in the immediate area? Tyssedal and Odda are two small towns that sit in the valley below the beautiful hike. We have put together an itinerary for a perfect 3-Day weekend, highlighting the things you do not want to miss while you are making the trek to Trolltunga.
Day 1
Drive through the Hardangerfjord at a leisurely place, taking in the stunning views of mountains, glaciers, waterfalls, cascades, and so much more. If you are lucky, maybe you can spot orcas swimming in the fjord! These elusive animals have been spotted all through the Hardangerfjord, but are rarely in the same place for long. Upon arrival in Odda take a walk along the Opo river or check out the newly finished swimming dock and walking trail by Sandvinvatnet.

If you are feeling hungry, check out Ferskvaren Restaurant, a restaurant that focuses on high-quality local ingredients and local drinks, such as Norwegian Sider. For a more upscale taste of Norway, check out Buer Restaurant, where you can enjoy glacier views with your food, prepared by chefs who have Michelin restaurant experience. After a nice welcome to our slice of Hardanger, rest your head at Tyssedal Hotel. The historic hotel has a world-renowned art collection on display, featuring paintings by Christian Krogh, Nils Bergslien, Morten Muller, and more.

Day 2
Challenge yourself to a thrilling adventure, such as our Day Hike to Trolltunga. These unforgettable views are not to be missed. Our group tours start early in the day to make the most of the time on the mountain, as well as seeing Trolltunga with enough time for pictures! In the summertime, this popular trail will most likely have a long queue for photos during peak travel hours. Coming on a guided tour allows you more opportunity to see places a bit off the beaten path, and places tourists typically do not find on their own. We prioritize seeing the best of the trail, making this a memorable experience for life.
An unforgettable moment at Trolltunga.
After completing this challenging trek, treat yourself to a relaxing visit to Tyssedal Sauna. A private sauna-session lasts 90-minutes, giving you the perfect amount of time to relax and rejuvenate. Sauna has deep roots in many of the Nordic countries, and many Scandinavians praise its health benefits, as well as the relaxing nature of a sauna visit. Swim in the cool fjord waters and soothe your sore muscles in the hot, wood-fire sauna to round off a long day of adventuring in the mountains - just like the Norwegians do.
Day 3
After the exhilerating day yesterday, it’s time for fun and leisure. Join us on a half-day Sider Experience tour, where we go on a Sider tasting at Ola K Siderhus and Restaurant and visit the lovely Kvedstad Sideri and Farms. Combining stunning fjord views, a scenic bus ride with a local guide, and the opportunity to taste award-winning sider, makes this a great balance to the adventure at Trolltunga.
Hardanger Sider making has deep historic roots in Norway. It has been farmed and produced in this region for hundreds of years. Visiting a Sideri and farm offers unique insight into this history, as well as the opportunity to taste an authentic Norwegian beverage. Known as the champagne of Norway, Hardanger Sider is very unique, making this historic and scenic tour a perfect way to round out the long weekend.
We also reccomend stopping by Låtefossen before leaving our district. It is a truly gorgeous, two-stream waterfall, right off the side of the road - no hiking required!
We hope you enjoy your visit to Odda and Tyssedal for a long weekend soon!
