Getting Here

On this page you will find information about the area, our meeting point, how to travel here and our best recommendations for accommodation

General information about the area

Trolltunga is located in the Hardanger region in Norway. It is close to Bergen, Stavanger and Haugesund and is considered to be one of the most beautiful areas in Norway. Two national parks, two national tourist routes, fjords, waterfalls and glaciers await you. The Hardangerfjord is  179 km long and is the third longest fjord in the world.

Odda is the largest city in this region and is located about a 20-minutesdrive from the starting point to Trolltunga, P2 Skjeggedal. The city is surrounded by rushing waterfalls, emerald fjords, blue glaciers, silvery peaks, and lush valleys. If you want to travel to this region, it’s the easiest to travel by car, but you can also go by bus, boat and train - read more below.

Tyssedal is the nearest town to the starting point of the hike. It is a great jumping-off point for all our adventures, including our Fjord Kayak tours and Sider Experience tours. Read more about accomodations in Tyssedal and Odda below.

Getting to Odda and the Hardanger area

  • The nearest international airports are Haugesund (HAU) and Bergen (BGO). They are both 2.5-3 hours from Odda.

Most people chose to come to Bergen (BGO), as it is the larger og the two airports, and from there travel to Odda by car or public transit.

  • Traveling by car is the easiest and best way to get around in this area. Hardanger is quite remote and very rural, and the freedom of your own car is something you will not regret. You will have the freedom to stop wherever you want, make small detours and explore the beautiful Hardangerfjord in the best way.

Rental cars can be found in all major cities.

Estimated time of driving to our meeting point Skjeggedal (P2):

    • Bergen – 3-3.5 hours (you will need to take a boat ferry - make sure to check out the time tables in advance)

    • Oslo – 5.5-6 hours

    • Haugesund – 2.5 hours

    • Stavanger – 3.5 hours

NB: During the high season June-August, heavy traffic is to be expected. Our roads are narrow, and this can add significant travel time.

  • You can come from all the major cities to Odda by bus. You will arrive at Odda Busstasjon (bus station) which is located in the city centre. From here you can walk to some accomodations, or hire a taxi to get to your final destination.

Follow these links to find the timetables for the different routes:

  • Odda does not have a train station so coming here by train includes taking a bus the last stretch. The popular Flåm railway does not have a connection to Odda.

You can travel by train with VY from either Voss, Geilo or Bergen. Upon arrival, you will have to take a connecting bus to Odda for the final stretch of travel.

Book train tickets and find the timetables here!

  • “Hardangerfjordexpress" is the most beautiful way to travel from Bergen to Odda. You can take the boat from Bergen to Rosendal, a charming town on the other side of the peninsula where Odda is located. From Rosendal there is a bus connection to Odda.
